Description
Of course, both these genres (legends and fairy tales) cannot be considered folk tales, but legends are certainly not historical stories. Although there is not much difference on the outside, both fairy tales and legends are narrative genres and they definitely contain a story element. But the main difference between legends and fairy tales lies in people’s faith and disbelief in the story. While the plot of legends is believed with faith as a true story, the plot of fairy tales is considered to be fantasy and no one believes in its truth. In fact, both these genres are full of fantasy and supernatural elements.
Although Nepali legends describe the magical and wonderful activities of divine and supernatural characters, it would not be an exaggeration to say that they reflect Nepali people’s lives. Every legend reflects not only the religious beliefs of the Nepalis, but also their psychology and philosophy, ideology and thinking, joy and sorrow, and happiness and sorrow.
