Description

God is one. The experience of God is also one. The manifestation of that one experience differs in the saints according to their time, environment and path. To wage war on the basis of that is nothing but foolishness.

There is an incident narrated in the Bible, where Jesus, who came to Jerusalem for the last time, wept seeing the suffering of the people. If he had been Lao Tzu, he would have laughed in that situation. Suffering is an illusion for him. A person’s own foolishness is a creation of his own foolishness. If he had been Buddha, he would not have even looked back. The past does not exist in his mind. If he had been Mahavira, he would have probably looked back, but would not have laughed or cried. For him, life is just a dream. Why laugh at what happened in a dream? Why cry?

Jesus, hanging on the cross, looks up at the sky and calls out to God. If Buddha had been hanging on the cross? In his vision, God does not exist. He probably would not have called out at all.

Looking at all these reactions, we may draw conclusions about the saints, call this one great or that one great, but it does not matter to them.

The fragrance of sainthood is this originality.

This book is not a biography of the saints. It is not a history. It is not even a life story. It cannot be a ‘story’ of the lives of the saints. Because, a story-free life is the fragrance of sainthood.
